Regardless of what your experiences have been with Windows in the past, traditionaly upgrading the OS of a Mac has resulted in a faster computer. Apple has consistently made noticable performance improvements with each new release of Mac OS X. And the focus of the next OS, Snow Leopard, is on increasing the performance and reducing the storage requirements of the OS.
